Hi,

Can anyone help me out with a Rav 4 radio problem?

When I start it up the lights on the display work, trip operates but that's about it. After a while it will accept a cd but will not play it. After another short while (usually by pressing the eject button for 10 secs) the cd ejects. This is repeated for a random number of times until it plays the cd. Only when it begins to play can I switch to the radio. At this point cd / radio operation (after re-programming the stations) works fine until I switch the vehicle off. Next time I switch it on I go through the same faff.

I tried the dealer who said unlucky it's out of warranty and could not fix it. Something along the lines of £1500 for a new one, unlikely. They suggested a radio repairer might be the way forward but they have also said they'll not be able to fix it.

Has anyone had a similar problem and if so what did they do?

Thanks.

Hi there, sorry can't help at the mo. But it may help to post this message in the rav 4 forum itself. You can find it at the top of the 4x4 forum.

A cheap way to get a stereo, is to find one on eBay if you're lucky.

Thanks Stuart,

I've posted it there too. Hopefully I don't have to fork out on a new unit!!!!!!

Hi gsilks

If you have no luck on replacing your head unit with an original RAV unit. You can pick out any type of head unit from Halfords etc. & buy an additional harness/fixing plate even if the rear plug is different there is an adaptor for that as well. Total cost about £200.00 depending on what type of H/U you buy.

All radios for Toyota go to a company in Bradford - West Yorkshire called Autosound

They are good guys, may be worth a phone call, your dealer should be able to remove set & post to them for an estimate, Its then your choiuce if you want it repairing or not

There are only £1500 because they carry a £1000 surcharge which is refunded when the old set is returned to Toyota ;)

Sounds like there a problem with the permanent live to the set or running through the set
