Tns 200 Problem.

I have just bought a 2001 Avensis and the Satnav seems to be slightly out. It says I am on one road when in fact I am either on another road or about 300 yds further down the road that it says I'm on when navigating a route. Can anyone please tell me if there is anyway to calibrate the system or is this a common fault. Is it a dealer job. OMG I hope not.

I am new to this forum so forgive me if this is posted in the wrong place.

You can recalibrate the system slightly though from memory I think the menu refers to it as a 'tyre change' indicating that you only need do this when you have new tyres fitted.

Have you been driving in particularly poor weather (rain / cloud) as that can effect the ability for the GPS to lock position accurately.

I did have a link to the TNS200 manual where you could find out how to re calibrate (or 'tyre change') however I have checked the link and it is down :(

When I picked the car up it was quite cloudy but today was fine and the problem was still there. I did do the tyre change thingy but no change. I did read somewhere that it calibrates after time but I forget where.

where did you get the car - is it an option to pop back and let them have a look or was it a private sale ?

also (probably clutching at straws here) would a dirty CD corrupt the map data ? might be worth a quick clean ? ?

sorry I'm not helping much . . . .

It could be that. I've noticed that if the cd unit in the boot is upright I cannot eject the cd, it will only eject the disc if the unit is flat. I will move the unit today and see what happrns. Any help is appreciated.

Just an update. I laid the unit flat in the boot instead of upright and it worked a treat. Not an ideal position but at least I know it works. I think the next step is to clean the cd and lens and move it upright again. Has anyone else had a similar problem?
