<_< HI guys, newby so here goes. 54plate D4D 5 door XT3 13000miles.I have the drive belt squeal especially first thing till it warms - could be up to a few miles .The belt isnt slack but I see references in the forum to a mod - what does this consist of please?

Also seem to have a clunk when reversing then - anyspeed - applying brakes , as though the pads are moving in the calipers. Any thoughts anyone?

Its had the first service at the francise dealer - the only time Ive seen the place except when purchasing - which is why I bought the Rav, but now these niggles are starting to make themselves known . cheers G

Hi i have a similar model Rav (53 d4d xt4) to you and only find I have the caliper noise, I did have some belt whining and thought here we go but after a few miles it ceased. The capiler noise I have learned to live with may just be part of the design for them to shift a bit. Someone else may know better.

Cheers Gazza

Modified belt and in some cases a mod which involves spacing the pully out slightly

Your right the pads are moving in the caliper

Theres a special grease from Toyota to add to the back of the pads to reduce the speed of the movement

All should be under warranty ;)

Hi All,

I had both problems on my RAV4 (04 D4-D), the clunking brake noise was resolved 1st time I took it to the dealers however the squeeling belt took 6 visits. :crybaby:

It di eventual get solved when I did a bit of surffing and found an American site that explained how to fix problem. :)

The issue is that the belt drive/pullies are slightly out of alignment and needed a small washer adding to one of the pullies to line them up again so that it no longer squeeled.

This has worked for me, however I noticed that they also changed the belt, and a couple of the tensioners on the whole assembly.

Hope this helps!!!!
