I tell you m8's the decision would have to be very ponderate, both are very japanese, altough yaris is a little more european than the sirion (but thank God Sirion is not one of those standing matchboxes like Move :P ) and Sirion is also quite stylish, both have the same engine, and it's also a Toyota :P

I dont prefer the new yaris to old one but it is still better than that exscuse for a car! I would never ever buy a daewoo! They aint half the name that Toyota is! That little car is nothin compared to the size and features you get in the toyota yaris! NO competition mate!

I can't knock Daewoo's... we've had three in our house, they weren't brilliant to drive, but they were simple, decent cars. Plus, the after-care service was the most awesome thing known to man. Put it this way, when you go to toyota and say your carpet has worn they say it's wear and tear and won't replace it. Tell them you've got a leak... they blame it on someone else. Tell them it's making a funny noise... they do nothing.

At Daewoo... without any questions asked they booked it in, gave you a courtesy car and they didn't just fix your problem, they replaced any parts that were concerned, they filled your petrol tank up, gave you a free key ring every visit and it was all done when they said. Outstanding... don't knock it 'till you've tried it!!

Oh, on the subject of Daihatsu or Toyota... can't say i'd have either of them... it'd be one of these for me please:

That there is The Suzuki Swift GTi. When it comes to UK it'll be three door, 1.6, 130bhp and from first drives... a hoot to drive (even if a tad tricky at limit!)

So, 130bhp and lighter than a Yaris? Nice me-thinks!

Daihatsu Sirion = Toyota Duet

My nans got a duet and they're terrible in my opinion (ok, so she's got the old shape duet). But i've never liked it one bit, the interior isn't all that great, and the engine doesn't have any oomph. then again, this is coming from a 1.0l vitz owner.... :S

Woops my bad on the daewoo/daihatsu thingy :P I wouldnt buy a daewoo or daihatsu still though! None of them look nice and none of them seem to have any draw to them! Atleast the new yaris has some space, a good safety rating, querky features and the like!

And yeah it soooo looks like that fiat multipa! And That Suzuki swift looks nice but VERY similar to the mini but with the new yaris front lights! :P

I agree with Gray.... Suzuki Swift looks gorgeous - I'd have one of those!

Between the Daihatsu and the Toyota, I'd go Toyota, but if someone offered me a free Daihatsu, I wouldnt say no!

The Swift does look like the result of an illicit liaison between a Mini and a Yaris but the offspring is rather nice!

The Colt is, indeed, worthy of a look too.

Anyway, you shouldn't just ask us...

Go test drive.

There's a swift that parks in my car park at work (offices over road rent spaces) that's all white, white rims, lowered, spoiler, and red & blue racing stripes... looks the complete dags! I'll try and get a piccy next week! Looks sooo good!

My dad test drove one recently cos they sent him some free stuff if he did... he really liked it... very good grip and even the 1.3 he drove was damn swift (hehe!) Plus, unlike the old one it felt like a proper car... screwed together well, good stereo, comfy seats... just a good car. Thats my next if ever have any money!

  • 15 years later...

I have two Daihatsu Sirion's in my stable and I wouldn't swap them for nought!  They are both LPG, and I've had new clutches fitted on them for £300 a piece, although I do my own servicing on the whole.  Exhaust pipes were a bit of an issue to obtain, but apart from that all good.  They are like a tardis, they are chain driven so no need for new cambelts, they are reliable, good quality, economical, quite stylish little beasties with shiny alloys 🙂
