Corolla Heater Control Illumination

My Corolla GS, reg November 2001, does not have the heater controls illuminated when the lights are on. I asked at my local Toyota dealer and was told that they are not lit on this model, but I do not believe this - tyhe heater knobs have green plastic inserts of the type which do illuminate. I am pretty sure the fault is either a U/S bulb or that the fibre optic cables have become detached, but I cannot sort out how to remove the trim to check this.

Can anybody advise, please?

The heating panel on my 1998 lift back is illuminated when lights on, the fan speed knob and vent direction control knob are also illuminated, but the middle one, that shows blue through to red for air temp is not illuminated.

This confirms what I thought - the controls should illuminate; and I was given wrong information by the Toyota dealer. The knobs on my heater control ALL have the plastic inserts to illuminate. My problem is that I haven't yet found how to remove the centre console trim to get at it!

Hello again, guys,

Many many thanks for your replies and help - I have now completed the job and your advice was excellent. My model appears to be slightly later than yours (or because it has the safety locking fitted) the vent panel was slightly different, but everything worked fine!

If anybody else needs to do this job - don't hesitate to follow the instructions given!
