Guys, Please can you tell me the top speed of the GEN 5 GT-4, I have had KITT up too some nice speeds (on private roads) but I want to know if the GT-4 is quicker.

TIA

Ash.

The reason I am asking is that, on eBay is a gen 5 GT-4 top speed 145mph, KITT's a GT-R and can go up to that speed too easily.

Not a chance, sorry. The book top speed is 137 mph, which is pretty optimistic IMO. On top of that your's is an auto, so it probably has an even lower top speed. Your speedo must be miles out if you are seeing speeds over 140 mph.

From my judgement, I doubt that a manual gen 5 would get above 130 without a strong tail wind! Guess an auto would top out at around 120?

just FYI...

In general, speedo's overread - usually by about 10% - if you have had a kph-mph conversion, this can be even further out..

But as a rule of thumb - 145 on your speedo would be around 130 'real' speed..

Not sure if all of one type of car are better or not, but I calibrated my speedo because I like to know what speed I'm actually doing and the Celica wasn't far out at all. I think 60mph indicated was 58mph Actual. I've now set it at 60mph indicated = 59.5mph Actual

The Focus was miles out 60mph Indicated = 54mph Actual. Only strange thing with the focus is that you can get the speed up on the Odometer display (in diagnostics mode) and the speed on the digital display is then spot on.

Had my ST205 (300+bhp granted) up to 170mph-ish on the speedo on the stock wheels so will be more like 160mph in real life which is pretty much the best the stock gearbox ratio will do.

Thing is the car was still pulling right up into the red but you have to obviously back off at that speed as hitting the rev limiter would be deadly

The ST205 really needs a 6th gear

Bibbs' MR2 Tubby will go up above 160mph on the speedo any day of the week  and thats the st185 engine with a 2wd version of the same gearbox.

If i remember correctly the gt4 gearbox has higher ratios that the MR2 box anyway

But going back to the original post by Asha, there is a BIG difference between an n/a celica and a turbo celica.

My st202 was nothing like my st205. Completely different car

Highest i managed out of the st202 was 145 on the speedo, and that took a while to get up there

I calibrated mine myself using a GPS system. I took the clocks out marked where the needles were and guessed how much to move them forward, then put them back and took it for a test drive. Get to a nice straight road and keep it steady at 60 on the needle then look at the GPS to see what speed it says you are doing. I got mine close enough (which is 59.5 at 60mph) but I kept it under as it is illegal if it under reads.

Then once you've got it right check it at other speeds, try it at 30 then as fats as possible

:help: do speedos ever under-read ? a few times i've been sitting at 80 or 90 maybe and i feel like its much faster ! even 30 or 40 seems a bit quick ? maybe after i had the new engine installed something could have happened :help: or maybe not and its my imagination ??!!
