Stalling Update And Battery Woes

Well

I bit the bullet and changed the coolant. The stuff wasn't that bad but it is now cystal blue and topped up.

My other car expired in heavy traffic and I had my mate tow me home the 15 miles. Unfortunately the tow rope (his) was only 6 feet in length. I have never been so scared or banged about as much as that ever!

So supra is #1 car. Next morning went to start it and the Battery was flat. Jumped it off my 85 amp leisure Battery. parked at train station. Came back that evening...battery flat. Following two days same thing. Went to buy a Battery saturday morning and the car stalled and wouldn't start again for over an hour. Missed the battery shop as it closed at 12 noon. Went home swore at car and left it. Following morning car started first time.

Is the car taking the Mick (sorry about the pun). Looks like te stalling is back and yes Karma, I've checked the plugs etc. Life just isn't fair I think the car is possessed and it killed off my escort through osmosis.

I have been the bank and applied for a loan for new (second hand obviously) car. What does anyone think of the 9.3 Saab 2 litre? Or the A4 Audi 1.8?

Oh by the way some old geezer in another flash German car tried to race me from the lights down the by-pass---'Stupid Boy'. Why is it old geezers and why pick on my poor old stalling mk111?

The saga continues (ha-ha- good one that--he he)

Michael :)

I hate Saabs with a passion

I always said the coolant suggestion was a wild goose chase!! I don't care what enyone else here says....

Have you unpluged the TPS ans ignitor plugs and cleaned all the contacts??

Checked the AFM?

Cheacked for air leaks?

How is it cutting out???

has it got an aftermarket alarm system fitted??

these can play havoc with the Battery and electronics when they fail.

My Audi had this problem where the alarm would drain the Battery within a couple of hours. Tried everything to source the fault then, out of desparation, stopped using the alarm. Never had a problem since.

Agreed, but hey what do we know.

As an aside are you sure you have the right coolant in ? I thought it was supposed to be red but it's so long since i've worked on the MKIII i'm not 100%

You need to start being more analytical in your approach to sorting the stalling problem.

Checking for air leaks as Karma says is a very good start. The age of the cars means that many pipes are brittle and prone to cracking. Even a small pipe that has split can cause the car to keep cutting out.

Check condition of plugs and leads. When were the leads last changed vs. age of the car.

Are there any error codes stored by the ECU ?

Is the idle valve gummed up ?

As your Battery seems to be losing charge have you checked that the alternator is working properly ?

etc

etc.

If you come back with some of this info then i'm sure people on here will be happy to help further.
