Off the top of my head it's about 5mm. Not near the car at the moment but I'm sure a ruler will let you know the size of the padlock hole :)

Because the catch is so small. This size of padlock only seem to be available in standard form, I.E just metal. I would cover one in grease to protect it from the elements and the salt on the roads this time of year. I also have a locking wheel nut on the spear.. The last thing I want in a rusted solid lock when I have a flat in the middle of nowhere :ffs:

 Happy new year to you all

Go to a good lock smiths, they'll be able to recommend you one. I got one that looks like it's chrome but it isn't. It's been on a year now and is still very easy to open with out having to cover it in grease/oil etc. Sorry can't remember the name of the top of my head, will try and remember to check later. It wasn't that expesive either :)

OK, finally remembered to check my lock this morning.

I have an IFAM M-30 pad lock which is made in Spain. Fits a treat :)

It was black this morning when I looked at it. Had to clean it to get the name but it opened no problem at all. The last normal pad lock I had on it had to be broken to remove it after just a couple of months, this has been on a year and not had any oil/grease applied to keep it in good condition.

I use the same locks in the garden now for ladders, gates, etc. The best bit, their only a few pounds :D
