Rear Wash Wipe 1999 Avensis Estate

:( The water jet on the rear wash wipe on my 1999 Avensis TD estate deceased some 18 months ago - the wiper works fine but without the water risks scratching the rear screen. The front washers continue to work fine. When I attempt to operate the rear wash wipe I can't see any obvious signs of leakage elsewhere in the car. Buoyed with my success in fixing an ignition switch problem on the car last weekend thanks to excellent help from this forum I wonder if I can obtain similar excellent help in respect of the wash wipe. Help anyone?

Thanks in anticipation :help:

First question has to be; Can you hear the pump running when you try to squirt the back screen?

If so, it is more likely to be a blockage rather than a leak. If you've done the pin in the jet trick to unblock the jet, i'd move on to the boot lid.

Pull off the covers and access the piping. Here you can pul it off any joins that may be there, and check for water at that point.

Keep working your way progressively back to the pump until you find water. It's most likely to be at the boot end than anything though if the pump is working, you've got a joint that bends everytime the boot is opened and the nozzle itself. That's presuming the nozzle is mounted on the boot lid, I can't remember.

As Stuart has said but it might be worth first disconnecting the pipe coming off the rear washer motor to see if there is any flow at the pump outlet.

The pump can run but often suffers from a blocked pick-up gauze.
