Squeaky Steering!

I have a "52" Avensis Vermont, only aquired in the last couple of months. A couple of days ago, a squeaking noise has begun to come from the steering wheel! Have seen other posts refer to this, but it only occurs after about 3 or 4 miles driving. It appears to come directly from below the steering wheel as if it is rubbing on the surround, but of course this it not the case as there is adequate clearance there. It doesn't seem to cause any problem apart from being SO ANNOYING. I did drop the surround to have a look, but not really any signs of anything rubbing, and did try having a spray around of silcon type dash shine, but to no avail! If I can get this fixed can anyone tell me if the remainder of the 3 year warranty, which expires in December '05 (for which I have no paperwork for) , would cover this?

Hi - I have two avensis both with dofferent squeaks - one from inside (coupled with aslight knock) was fixed by toyota packing the bush at the bottow of the column with grease - a common fix I think. The one that happens in reverse which sounds more like a graunch - was caused by the steering rack.
