I have the same problem with erratic idling speed on a Previa D4D T3. It only seems to have started since the cold weather arrives (<5C). If I am stuck at lights it goes from 900 to ~1400 revs and at the next normal, at the next back to 1400 revs.

I too would be grateful for any assistance or advice.

Hi Brian J

Ha Ha I Have found the problem the Previa has a heater in the back in it there is an electric heater to boost it in cold weather. Under the steering wheel there is a switch called power heater I am disabled so sometimes when I get in I knock the switch on this then takes a lot of current from the Battery witch makes the alternator work harder this causes drag on the engine at idle so the ECU calculates the drag then speeds up the idle to cope with it. Turn the switch on and off and watch the rpm go up and down.

Forgot to add this only does it when it is cold and up to the working temp of the engine.

Have a good Christmas
