Alarm Help Please!

Hi All,

I own a 1995 Rav4. Overall I have been very pleased with the performance and reliability but I now have a problem. I had not used the car for about 5 weeks and when I went to start it up the Battery was dead. However when I went to jump start it the alarm kept going of constantly and nothing I did seemed to stop this. I did use the special key in the key slot on the alarm and while this stopped the noise it also appeared to immobilise the car because it was dead when I turned the ignition key. Can anyone tell me how to get around this?

Many thanks,

Paul.

You need to charge the Battery up first, leave the siren unit "keyed" off and

refit the charged Battery onto the vehicle.

When you connect the Battery terminals up,the alarm will trigger but you wont hear it as the siren is keyed off -

the key will silence the siren but not immobilise the alarm.

Use the key fob to disarm the alarm and remove the key from the siren unit.

The alarm will now be fully functional and the engine will start as you have charged the battery.

Hope this helps you.

Hi Mick,

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I leave for work very early in the morning and get home quite late so it is too dark to do anything! I will try this over the weekend and let you know how I get on.

Many thanks,

Paul.

Hi Mick,

I charged up the Battery on Sunday and followed your advice. You were spot on and the car is now back in action. Many thanks for your help. What particularly impressed me with the car is how after standing for over 6 weeks on my drive in some bitterly cold nights it still started on the first turn of the key. I drove it to work today and it ran as sweet as the day I bought it. Toyota really are an exceptional car maker.

All the best,

Paul.

Glad to help Paul

ps - dont forget to check your Tyre Pressures if the car has been stood that long.
