First Bump

I reversed my yaris into my sisters car behind, and got a bad dent in the body-work below my back bumper from the tow bar on sis's car :(

The paint is peeling and theres a mian dent with the rest of the area now bending intowards the new dent

Anyone have any idea how much sorting this (getting the dents sorted and resprayed or a new piece of body?) would cost?

HH

Sorry to hear about that Heather - I did the same with my last Yaris and a lamp-post, but I never repaired it as the damage was small and the paintwork was fine so I'm afraid I cant help with the cost....

Hope you get it sorted soon though!

Heather, sorry to hear of your misfortune, seriously though, don't refer to it as your first bump!!!

It sort of suggests you're planning on more!!!

good bit is it was a 'bump' and not a 'smash' or a 'wreck' tho. and at least there probably wont be insurance company involvement :) sry to hear u had a bump... glad it wasnt anything more serious. n hope theres no repeats anytime soon. :)

Sorry to hear about your mishap Heather. I'd just go round a few bodyshops and get some estimates and go from there. I could recommend a couple of bodyshops but they are in Kilmarnock and it might be too far out the way for you? Let me know anyway!

So long as it is just a dent at low speeds... for new metal bit, a good repair and re-spray shouldn't cost more than £200.

Porbably be cheaper to get the Toyota replacement if it's gonna cost upto £200!

The extensive damage to mine cost just under £400, and that was bad!!!

Six months into owning my new Yaris, some idiot bumped into the back of my car at a traffic stop. The bumper and the floor pan (the carpet had to be lifted to see it) were dented and twisted. The tailgate could be closed but not locked shut. I obtained quotes from three body shops and eventually settled for one with special machinery for straightening distorted body geometry. It was a superb piece of repair work, for there was absolutely no trace, hint, or clue that this part of the car had ever had any damage. The bill, to the insurance company, came to £600, which also included a week's use of a replacement car.

As Jaxx says, it's not one of the more expensive parts on a Yaris. It's the metal rear valance that you're looking at. If the plastic bumper above it isn't too badly damaged then about £150 should cover it. That's paiinted and fitted.

Oh and no point trying to bend it back or hammer it into shape. It's thin metal there and creases easily.

Ask around a few bodyshops for a quote. Toyota dealers can do it but it will be more expensive. You could still ask though. They don't charge for quoting... yet!

I did a search and found this which may be of use.

clicky!

There are other threads you can search if you wish. Try doing a search for "valance" in the Yaris section. I know I posted in a few so use "AL J" in the member search box as well if you wish.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for all your replies - it is definately the valance - the thin bit of metal below the bumber. Mine is pretty horribly damaged so couldnt be pushed back out, but if I could get it replaced and sprayed for under £200 then that will do for me.

Thanks everyone.

:-)
