Discrete Spots Or Excellent Head Lamp Bulbs

Hi all,

I seem to be spending lots of time driving in the dark at the mo.

Unfortunatly Freddie needs a little boost to her night illumination.

I've looked at headlamp bulbs on eBay, but I'm a little wary as I'm unable to pick up the product and see it's quality, (I do buy a lot on ebay) and buggered if I am paying Half**ks prices.

Or do I get some spots? My bumper doesn't have the holes for fogs (plus I think the position maybe illegal for spots), so I'm thinking really tiny spots behind the grill or not so tiny put into the grill ala mini style.

Any opinions or recommendations or help welcomed

Cheers

Mike

I'd just upgrade the standard items to something like Osram or PIAA bulbs, PIAA are not cheap but worth it apparently! Osram bulbs have a good £/quality ratio though!

mini style spots would look shocking on a yaris, altho i cant say i have seen them just how i would imagine them.. i personally dont think they would suit the front end

*if* possible, try and get hold of some import X-White bulbs, this is what ive got in the mr2 and had them in the yaris, and they are about as close to true HID with any bulb you can buy

downfall, they are £55 a pair

also spotlights would

- look ghey

- more than likely be illegal

they've not that bad Charis...

And as for legal/illegal - the problem is simply they do not have a 'E' mark, which means they havent been tested for Europe, and as such, arent certified...

I've had mine in at least 2 years (and 2 MoT's) without a single bother..

When I said mini style I didn't mean out the front sat on a lamp bar, but actually recessed into the grill it's self.

For £55 I'd expect it to be like bl**dy daylight, as thats the kind of robbery it is! But then that's Probably what I could expect to pay for spots. Prehaps Some decent main beams then instead!

Cheers for the advice so far

Do you mean like LED's in the gaps in the grill kind of thing? if so im sure someone has done it before and it didnt look too good imo or give much light (in comparison to driving lights!)

Invalidates your insurance too as the car is not road legal with them on.

hmm so knowing driving with illegal lights..and no insurance..interesting combination!

Most bulbs that are illegal are because they are over bright. :!Removed!: They have rally type fillaments, say 100/90, which are "not for road use". I would try them first, from the hated Halfiddlers as they will still only be around £10-15 a pair. :toast: The real problem is in the desighn of the projector lens in the lights. I ride motorcycles and this problem is all too common and people resort to extra bright bulbs to see better. The big downside is that the light is so far from the ground, you dazzle everyone else on the road. That shouldn't be too big a poblem with the Yaris though. Also, the Battery drain is a lot greater. again, not a prob in the car.

If your looking for decent bulbs that aren't too expensive i would recommend Philips X-Treme Power H4 bulbs. I just put a pair in and they are a lot better than standard and not too expensive at £24.99 with a free pair of sidelights....Powerbulbs...just realised this post is from 2005...
