To Buy Or Not To Buy... That Is The Question

Hi all :)

I just found this site and have had a lil mooch thru the forums, im well impressed by the help and advice you all give.

So heres the question, Im currently driving a 96 Golf GTI (mk 3) and have a BWM 730 garaged. I love the reliability of the german cars and the golf is nice and fun to drive. However im just so addicted to the look of the Celica's and have heard that the engines are hard to kill.

I have come across a 96 Celica 2.0GT which looks sweet and seems a good price to me - if i were to buy it and loose my Golf would i regret it ? or just love the Celica more ?

Opinions please...

Thanks in advance

J

Hi,

I was in the same position where i had a Mk 3 GTi and a couple of other golfs before it. I always thought that the germans produced the best cars and the best engines. But this was untill i came across the Celica and have never looked back.

Trust me the golf is nothing compared to the Celica looks or engine wise, for me i found the german cars vastly underpowered compared to the !Removed!.

Im loving every bit of the Celica

cheers

standard celica gt is 173 bhp ish , so you will see a big difference there , its all about learning to drive the celica, they need to be revved hard to get them to shift ,the fun begins in second around 3500 to 4000 revs , then comes the endless power surge , all good fun ,then you move to the gt4 which in comparison is simply mind blowing

Had a golf and a celica, the golf is a joke in comparision, well that is a little harsh (was a good car) but the driving position is WAY better in the celica as you are low down and seems more driver focused. Also I always beat the gti's when they step up for a bit of fun. Of the lights I struggle though as the low end torque is missing from the engine but once the car is over 4.5K revs bye bye golf gti!!! (mk2 16v gti's arn't easy to shake off though and the VR6's are everso slightly quicker)

also most golf's seem to be slow. 2.0 GTi 0-60 is 10 seconds! That is pantz!! When i had my celica gt i had a few race me and i left them miles behind

Now i have the GT4 not many people try racing me tho

anyway... yeah.... get celica, much better car all round than a golf. ;)
