'Lo all. I have just purchased a silver Paseo ST today. It is a 1996 on a P plate. It has 122,000 on the clock, full service history, taxed to Jun06 and the MOT was just done last week. The log book is fully stamped up to date - although a service is due now. I paid £1000.

I have just spent a couple of hours reading back through the posts in these forums. Good atmosphere in here and folks seem very friendly and helpful.

If someone could help me out with a couple of initial questions I have I would be grateful.

1 - The aerial is broken - does anyone know if this is a stock toyota part (could I get it from say a carina in a breakers) or is it specific to the Paseo?

2 - The timing belt is needing done - i have read that the belt should be anywhere between £15-£45. How much normally for this to be fitted?

3 - The exhaust was replaced last year (Sep) and the receipt shows this cost £350. ouch!! - is this roughly in the right ballpark or has the cat been done as well for this price? (just for future ref dont want to wet myself if & when the exhaust starts to blow!)

4 - Whats your thoughts on the mileage - is there still a few years left in the engine?

I still have a few questions but as this is my first post I'll keep it brief.

Oh - my first impressions of the car - very impressed. Feels solid, comfortable fast and, incredibly, totally rattle free!!!

Welcome to the site,

1, I believe the aerial is the same as the Starlet so could well be the same as other models that come with pillar mounted ones.

2, Shopping around might get you some decent quotes but bank on £50 upwards labour, don't pay more than £20 for a belt or you're getting ripped off, Gates or Blueprint are the best aftermarket ones.

3, If it still has a standard system then yes that would include cat, if its custom then I doubt it very much.

4, If its been serviced regularly as the service book suggests there's no reason why you won't get many thousands more miles out of it.

Hope that helps and you enjoy the car

Thanks for the reply Daz. You've set my mind at rest re the exhaust - yeah it is a stock exhaust - in fact the car is completely stock (even the stereo). I don't plan to do too much to the car although I am considering a rear spoiler to finish the car off.

Swithering about alloys - if the wife gets her hands on the car then they would be kerb'd faster than you could say "£50 per corner refurb mate".

Does anyone know how easy it is to source a standard Si spoiler? and again how easy to fit.

I'm guessing that as there were only a few thousand Paseos sold in the UK (and given its a Toyota :>) that there wont be a lot in breakers yards.

My St had a Si spoiler as standard (no idea why, must have just been an option that my previous owner ticked).

As for fitting, they normally get drilled straight into the boot lid, your right about them being rare, but I hear there is a seo in Durham with a nice spoiler, if you know anyone down there get them to try and get the spoiler of the car for you, im sure the owner wont mind donating the spoiler to yourself
