Hi,my name is Sharon and I am new to this site. I sold my Yaris T Sport only two months ago for the car I have wanted for years. I have bought a 55 plate Celica GT but it has an incredibly annoying squeak. I haven't had time yet to take it back to Toyota and am struggling to work out what it is. The continual squeaking only happens at low speeds (I commute mainly on the motorway) and comes from the near side rear. We have 'bounced' the car up and down and it doesn't seem to be the suspension. Another curious thing is the squeak is intermittent - there is nothing for a few days, then it kicks in. The interior is leather but I have checked the rear seats are in place. Any ideas before I have to take it back to Toyota would be appreciated before they tell me i'm an over-reacting woman.

It might still be the suspension, bouncing it up and down does not exactly replicate the loads that are generated as the car is driven. Other possibilities include:

Exhaust rubbing on the floorpan somewhere

Handbrake cables rubbing on something

A loose spare wheel

is the squeek from inside the car or outside , you could have someone sit in the rear whilst you drive and have them touch various things that are in the area of the squeek , 1 squeek i'm aware of is the parcel shelf, there was a web site showing all possible noises on the gen 7 , i will have to trawl it out someday .

Welcome to TOC Sharon.

The sqeak should be solved by the advice above. If not, take it to the dealer, I'm sure that they'll be happy to sort it out for you.

Thanks for all the advice. The squeak is quite loud and it does sound like it is coming from inside but we haven't been able to pin a location down. Looks like I'll be taking it back to Toyota with their wonderful customer service (not).

Could it be one of the belts under the bonnet? Its quite a common thing on the new shape Celica. Got a feeling its the auxillary belt that squeaks

with 2 ears anyone should know if its comming from the front or the rear of any motorcar really unless the engine was in the rear can't see it being the belts at all to be honest.like she said rear near side. ;)

Will let you know what it turns out to be once i've taken it in - could be a while as its difficult to get it to the garage I bought it from (I had big problems with my local dealer messing with my Yaris). Even thought about buying a cheap recorder to tape the noise to help them out.

Hi Sharon, welcome to TOC

I know it's not much help, but my car (T-Sport) has got the exact same squeaky noise - I think mine's coming from the back seats/parcel shelf too, but haven't been able to narrow it down.

I've also got a squeak from the aux drive belt tensioner (2nd time). I can't be bothered to get it sorted now as the car's going in in January for its 20k service. I'll get them sorted then.

If you get down to your dealer before Jan and get it sorted - can you let us know what it was? And likewise, I'll do the same when I get mine sorted!! :groupcuddles:

Yeah, i squeek from the back as well.... Tends to happen going over rough roads. I think I have tracked it down to the bits of rubber that the boot lid sits on when it is shut. Mine are a bit knackered (out of shape and cracked), so intend to replace them when it warms up a bit. Take a look at yours, and see if it could be the same...?

Update on the squeak which has developed into more of a creaking sound. Took it to Toyota this morning with it making the noise all the way. Left it with them and got a 'lovely' 1.0 Yaris in return. The dealers had it all day, went out 5 times in it and it didn't squeak once. I even went out in the car with them to see if it did it and guess what - silence. As soon as I got going home and was crawling along in traffic (and too late to turn back as the mechanics finished at 5) it started up again. AAAAHHHHH. Toyota have said they can't do anything to solve it until they have heard the sound. They want me to leave my car for 2-3 days so someone can randomly drive around in it at various times to see if it does it. In return I would regain the Yaris to drive. I have declined - am going to try and record the sound to play to them or just drive there when it is doing it and get them to listen. If anyone solves this problem before me, please let me know what it was.
