It's only happened 3 times but, is there a fault on the 2000 avensis with either the ignition barrell, starter motor or the immobalisor, cos all the dash lights come on and them in the cranking postion, they go off, but the starter don't turn, so i turn the key back and try again and it's ok :S

I have had this problem on my 99 Avensis and have just had it fixed at my local dealer.

The problem was the ignition switch which over time wears down stopping the electric signal reaching the starter motor hence why everything else works. All in it cost just under £100 to have replaced and took about 45 mins to do.

Hope this helps.
