Hi All And Please Explain

Hi all here on the forum! This is my first post after lurkin' around for a while. I have my avensis 1.6 VVT-i 2001 for about a year now and really enjoying it. It really comfortable and quiet imo and i've had no troubles with it at all. Uh, well, except for this lousy oilconsumption issue! :crybaby: My avensis was just 3.5 yrs with 150k kilometers when I bought it, but Toyota is not planning on helping me with this issue.

Anyway, my dumb question is: around here I see a lot of term like x-plate, w-reg, SE etc. What does all this mean? Here in the Netherlands I don't see that kind of terms at all. Just VVT-i or Linea Lune or something, plus year. So here we have the avensis 1998-2000, then 2000-2003 (facelift) with vvt-i or d4d and finally the new shape avensis. Sorry for the superdumb question, but could someone please explain the terms?

Thanx in advance folks!

x-plate, w-reg is the first letter of the registration mark on the vehicle. It corresponds to the year of manufacture... so for exampe 'w' would be 00, 'x' would be 00 and 01 (as new registrations issued twice a year) and so on..

SE relates to the model name, i.e Special Edition. Mine is a GS which I guess is Grand Saloon..

Hope this helps :)

Okay thanx! So as I understand this is only in the UK. It has nothing to do with the manufacturer but with the UK registration plates.

Well, thanx for clearing this up!

Yup thats it, exuse us Brits, we just assume the whole world can understand us lol.

BTW I've never heard of a luna, sol etc, and I think GS was Grande Sport.

No prob! I love the Brits! Every once in a while I visit GB and I love it.

I guess the luna, terra and sol descriptions are typically used on the european continent. And together with the reg-plates it made me confused somehow.

BTW: nice bassguitar! I love the Rickenbackers

In fact I know that for example in France and in Germany we have Linea Terra ('earth line') and Linea Sol ('sun line'). And some special editions.

The exterior difference between the two of them are (what I have noticed so far), and this is for the models before the facelift (98-00):

-the mirrors and the handles that open the doors are painted in the body colour on the Linea Sol.

-Linea Sol have fog lights

-some chrome is used on the Linea Sol

I am also thinking of buying a second-hand Avensis, but I have not decided yet if it is the right choice.

Thanks

Thanks. Unfortunately, thats just my dream, I can't justify £1500 to the wife, on what basically is just my hobby, got a Mexican Fender precision and a Yamaha BB4 which are really nice though ;)

A man needs to keep on dreamin' , right? The female bassplayer of my band owns one (sunburst) and ofcourse my number-one hero-of-all-times: Philip Lynott used one.

:!Removed!: sorry people, I know this is not the right board for this :!Removed!: Excuse!
