Which Is More Economical

Okay, say you have one paticular model in mind, which version of it would be more economical

An Estate, A Saloon, or a Hatchback/coupe

I have not got a "paticular" model in mind, its just something I want to know before i go pick a new car up...well, used/new, less than 4 years old anyway!

I don't know if this is relevant across the board, but certainly as far as, say an Avensis 1.8 VVTi GS is concerned, the estate quotes 37 mpg, the hatchback 38 mpg and the saloon 39 mpg.

I looked at figures for the Carina E, which quoted 41 mpg for the same engine in all three variants so it may depend on the make and model of car.

I would suspect that an estate will generally fare worse as they are less aerodynamic.
