Well after a big long drive yesterday I picked up my new celica. I got the ST and its a 98 one in black. Its in perfect condition, not a scratch on it. Even got a £300 cd player in there and some nice fox wheels. I think I got a really good deal with it, so well worth the 110 mile drive to pick it up even though im so tired today :D

Do you think it will be low enough with those with the 17's?

Are they 17" wheels that were on your car? Mine are 17 with low profile tyres and I want it so they fill the arches.

Whatever the the wheel size is, the outside diameter of the tyre should be about the same, so in terms of filling the arches you should achieve a similar effect. If tyres are wider, or offsets are different, then the issue of possible contact with bodywork or suspension could be different.

although, if the wheels are the wrong offset and rub, depending on the severity, you may be able to get away with just rolling the arches to avoid this.

I had exactly the same wheels on my car when I brought it and when the car was lowered the wheels buckled (i couldn't tell you when as I don't recall doing it) so just be careful you don't make the same mistake of going over any pot holes at speed once it is lowered as they don't make those alloys any more (they have updated the look) so I had to buy 4 new wheels, cost me a fortune!

But yes you have a sweet looking motor there mate love the alloys.

if you must lower it , get decent springs . like spax or Eibach .i lowered my st202 and hated it , ride quality was crap with 17's and low profiles , ok on the twisties grip like a go-cart , on potholes and uneven ground it was terrible.that was with a 35 mm drop.

Very nice, I actually prefer it as it is rather than lowered but each to their own!

Just keep an eye on the oil level. Hopefully a 98 won't have the problem but there is no definite info on which models will. It's no massive problem if it does use a bit of oil, but if it does make sure you keep it topped up

Thanks for the replies everyone. At the moment im keeping my fingers crossed for a dry day on saturday so i can give it a good clean and polish  I love the wheels too, ive always wanted spokey ones so it was a big bonus to me that it came with them!

Im not sure about lowering now, i think it would look better but I dont want to do any damage and I cetainly cant afford a new set of wheels if anything goes wrong. Maybe I will start with something else like some new Speakers or window tints or something.

I was quite suprised at how good it is on fuel, put £30 in when i bought it and after driving it home i have done 130miles since i got it and the petrol guage is still between half and a quater.

yeah it won't be bad on fuel. I typically do 35-45mpg and that's just town driving. Motorway is around 45mpg but drops very quickly if you go above 70mph

limo black on the windows would be proper blinging ,with a medium smoke on the driver - pass windows.would look the mutts nuts

tip - keep an eye on the rubbers surrounding the lights , for some reason they tear from the clipps holding them in place and could fall off , maybe car wash related dunno ???

Regarding the window tints....is it best to get them done profesionally or is there any good do it yourself kits that anyone could recommend? I dont want it to end up bubbling or with creases in but if i could do it myself (or rather get Craig to do it for me) it would no doubt be much cheaper.

Is there a classified section on this forum at all? Perhaps on the full members section or something?
