Decided to paint em black to make them look like air vents like the ones just below them, i think it looks much better than the orange ones and even the expensive clear ones!!

that looks pretty good, did you just spray the lens on the outside with tinting spray halfrauds sell

nah, i already had some general black spray paint and some clear lacquer lying in my garage, so thought i would give them a go

took off lenses and sprayed them with a light coat of clear lacquer, then light layer of black paint. just keep repeating that process untill the lights look as dark as you want them. I did them proper black so there was no trace of orange, yet when the indicators are on they are perfect bright orange.

if your going to do it, make sure the layers are light, first layer and last layer is lacquer, and i let them dry 5 mins between each layer, took a while but i think it was worth it

I won't do it on mine as I have the clear facelift ones, but I think anyone with a pre facelift model would be mad not to copy you. Looks 100x better!

  • 6 months later...

I need to do something about those orange front lenses and am probably going to choose between celsteve's pre-facelift clears or adamgt's black ones.

Obviously spraying would be much easier (and looks awsome on adam's car) and cheaper but does anyone have any pics of a silver pre-facelift GT with black lights or any opinions as to what this may look like? I am a bit unsure because the lenses are not recessed and cannot be passed off as vents like the ST205. Would body colour look tacky? Adam, did you spray the inside or outside of the lense?

I think my best bet would be to get some clear ones from protocast, but how much were these?

Ben

Ignore that last question. £72.50 for anyone that wants to know http://www.protocast.co.uk/toyota.html

I sprayed the outside of the lens.

You could try painting them black first... then if you dont like them... buy the clear ones  nothing lost then but a bit of paint ;)
