New Shape Avensis Tailgate?

On my T3 s Hatchback,if I dont push the tailgate right up,it comes back down again.I thought I might have a knackered gas strut but Toyota say this is normal?I'm not so sure as on the old shape one I had,it would stay put in whatever position I left it in.Thanx

ROFL was exactly what my wife was just about doing when I did chin myself with it and near enough bit my tongue off. To be fair though, she wasn't laughing when I started dribbling blood on the upholstery!

It would've been a top video moment had someone caught it! :)
