I just changed from a 1999 Avensis to a 2001 model, The orange warning light shaped like an engine came on Tuesday. Garage said it was the oxygen unit on the exhaust, They fitted a new one today, a mile down the road the light came on again. Garage said it could that there are 2 of the units on the exaust and that it could be the 2nd one thats faulty.Anyone know more about this please?

These do have a habit of going on the VVTi models, because the engine management doesn't like even the slightest error in reading.

Make sure the garage don't charge you for a second sensor if they've got the wrong one. Also it pays to check wether they are at fault because they are doing their job properly. In other words they are detecting that sommat isn't right, like maybe a failed catalyst.

If you don't have confidence in the garage, take it elsewhere. There are so many garages with mechanics, but not actual engineers.

Got the problem sorteed out.

Went back to the garage yesterday. Fault turned out to be the air flow meter. They fitted a new one.

Had the same thing with my Taxi. however have ruled out the air flow meter by swapping with a known good one from my mates Taxi. Will be replacing bank 1 O2 sensor as this is fault code showing in memory.

Please post if problem on your car has been resolved or returns.

What happened with the replaced O2 sensor that was not the problem?
