I have 1996 Tacoma 4WD Ex-Cab bought new and in stock condition and 80K on it. I take a good care of it and it ihas been very reliable.

Since few months ago, I started having a strange starting problem. When I turn the ignition, nothing happens (not even solenoid click). All lights/warinig work but the starter is dead. Then turn the key back and try again, starter starts perfectly.

Just be sure, I replaced 2-year old Battery with new one and cleaned/checked terminal/connection but the situation is the same.

It seems like some kind of electric problem. Starter motor seems to be fine when turning.

If anynoe in this forum know the possible cause of this stragne problem, please let me know.

Thank you in advance.

I got new contact parts and plunger for my starter and was ready to remove the starter.

But it seems like it needs a trick to remove the starter. I think I see two bolts holding the starter assebly but I cannot reach them unless I remove exhaust manifold/pipe. I tried to reach from the top, bottom, and side but no success.

Please let me know if I am missing something.

Thanks,
