I'm thinking of buying a Celica (my first). I'm looking at a mid-nineties GT. What should I be looking out for? Are there any problems I should know about? Anthing to stay clear of etc, etc? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Can't help you much mate as I'm a Gen7 owner rather than Gen6 that you're looking at. The other guys will be along to help out soon! In the meantime, have a quick through past threads in the database as there's bound to be similar topics.

Welcome to TOC though!

6th gen celica the one with the 4 head lights.

ST = slowest model, is ok but suffers from oil loss and suspension issues if abused. insurance grp 12/13

GT = Middle model in speed with about +50HP gain over the ST, the only real problem with this model is the suspension bushes tend to go after about 60K miles (about £20 to replace). the engine is bullet proof! This is the best model to go for if you want the best performance/insurance cost mix. insurance grp 15

GT4(FOUR) = this model is the all siging all dancing model with 2lt turbo engine and 4 wheel drive. Vey quick very expensive to own and insure but alot of fun (so I hear). Insurance grp 18

Hope that helps a little. If you have any specific questions let us know.

Pete - to be honest you've picked the one with least worries.

A mid Nineties GT should be perefect - no real niggles to look out for, obviously check the normal things (bodywork, oil, tyre wear etc etc)

With it being a Toyota it's going to be reliable and will go for atleast 200,000 miles if looked after
