I'm considering changing my normal avensis for the avensis verso - any feedback on the car would be helpfull.

What does it do well / not so well ??

Posted

I have an 04 Avensis Verso TSpirit Auto and on the whole, I am very happy with it.

About a month after I took delivery, I took it to France, 6 up, all adults, and no-one complained about being cramped. I am 6 foot 2 and I spent a couple of hours in the very back seats to test how comfortable it was and while it was snug, I didn’t feel uncomfortable.

I did have a couple of minor problems with it, the Alarm radar sensor did not work and had to be replaced and the disks and callipers, front and back showed signs of corrosion but I dealt with that myself by painting them.

The suspension is very hard one or two up and tends to crash and bang over pot holes. Four or more inside though and it is a lot more refined.

If you cruise around sedately, then it is a very quiet and comfortable ride, however the engine makes a lot of noise over 5000 rpm. This fortunately does not make motorway driving a chore as it will cruise above the speed limit below those revs.

The seats are comfortable and my model has all the toys, including VSC which, try as I might, I have not yet got it to kick in: The handling is remarkable for a large car.

The fit and finish is generally excellent. The seats have started to squeak a little but because you can take them out easily, an application of 3 in 1 sorted that. The cabin is a bit boring but the buttons and knobs have a solid, quality feel to them.

The turning circle is slightly better than an oil tanker and coming from a Galaxy, I had a few embarrassing moments until I adjusted my driving style to accommodate it.

My Auto does 25 MPG in the urban cycle and driven responsibly can achieve 32 to 33 on a long run. The gearbox is smoother than a 10x8 glossy of Des Lynam and also has a neat trick of changing from 4th to 3rd when you apply your foot to the brake on a hill.

All in all, I am happy I bought it.

I hopt this helps.

Look down the threads for my earlier testimonies. I drive my brand new Avensis Verso since September and 12.000km and I have to agree with preceding AV-owner. It is an excellent car, however has some small disadvantages. I can't really agree that turning radius is so big - but maybe all maneuvers are easier in such a high car for me in cause of better visibility comparing to normal hatchback or sedan like my older Megane. What I noticed bad:

- hinges squeak in one door, need some grease.

- floor carpets are not mounted firmly enough, but it is not very big problem.

- it's a huge volume car, so on cold and wet weather rear windows are misted up, especially when there is more than two sweating sportsmen on board.

- rear suspension is quite bouncy when car is empty, but when you take more than two passengers it becomes nice

- car is very quiet if you go still up to 100kph, up to 130 (and when rapidly accelerating) becomes quite loudly, and over 130 is simply loud. But I can drive up to 160-170 without big distress :). I heard no wind noices, rather engine and wheels. So on good roads it's much better.

- on harsh surfaces car behaves better than corolla, sligtly worser than avensis - steering is not so firm like in smaller, lower car, but it drives still like a car, not like a van :)

- engine is too weak for such a heavy car, but not very much, so it's possible to move efficiently - I use LPG, so it is a little bit weaker than on petrol and I am quite glad. It's not a racer, but keeps customs well :)

- that is poor sound insulation underneath the floor - one can hear every little stone hitting a floor.

- seats could be a little bit better (bigger)

- there is no cruising control available in my country

- nasty upholstery - I changed it immediately to leather and alcantara and it's a lot better :)

- price - could be lower :)

What is good:

- space, it's a lot of space - without 2'd and 3'd row of seats it is 2400 liter of luggage-room - even such monsters like cayenne are smaller :). Every seat gives you enough leg-room - even in the third row if you move the second a bit forward of coz.

- comfort - despite what I wrote several lines above, comfort is still satisfying :)

- steering - for me exactly enough touch and enough power, only little vibrations one could feel on steering wheel.

- ergonomy - everything is in the right place, maybe except sunshields, which could be wider. Maybe the gear lever could be higher, but it's not really a big problem.

- there are no such damn scientific ideas like in normal avensis - for instance you can adjust the brightnes of dash simply by turning the knob, no need to learn manual and stop the car when you want to dim or bright it.

- air-con - not so visually impressive like in newer models (lights, LED's and beepers), but effective

- additional warming and cooling for rear rows

- brakes - better than in avensis (but many guys complains of discs) and really sharp

- consumption - on petrol 8-9 liter /100km (28-26mpg) if you are a good boy, on LPG - 10,5 l/100 (22,4mpg). And I AM a good boy  I never ever noticed worser than 12,5l/100 (18,8mpg - on LPG, city, stop'n'go). Oh - comp sucks - it shows much better than real :)

- lights - excellent! I would never think I won't need xenons :). I miss only washers!

- radio/CD player - good enough for me, but not the top level of course.

- wipers - excellent so far (but a little too short the longer one), as like windscreen washer

- reliability - no need to explain - made in Japan :)

- VSC meddles maybe to early, but it knows better, when you are driving on ice and snow, as today :). Traction control on the contrary - wakes up too late, but I hate spinning. BA works great - once it really saved my *****

- engine - it just works, no more have to say :). Gearbox (I got manual) is not the class leader (little noisy) but works just very good.

I don't know any person who owns this car and is dissatisfied. And I know at least 8 happy owners :). But, of course, it is not a popular car. And shall be discontinued this year, I heard. With no successor, if I could believe journalists. So I can say honestly - if I have to buy a new car it would be AVerso again!

Hi There -

I own a Corolla Verso 1.6sx and in general very happy with it.

The 1.6 is ok, but the 1.8 very nippy.

Has all the toys and space.

Have you considered it?

I have considered this but the old shape c verso does not light my fire and probably will not be able to afford the new shape one.

Saying that though I'm starting to warm to a focus c-max dare I say so there could be hope for the c verso!

As a current C-Max owner (with a Yaris in the "family" too) I'd advise you to beware of the C-Max - have a look at all the issues at http://www.ffoc/forum/viewforum.php?...7dfa0fdbee5b6b6

before you decide - mine has (and continues to have) lots of problems!

Hi! I've a 2004 model, diesel with a TTE performance kit, now with 50000km, bought new... (sorry my poor english, it's a bit rusty)

I don't know what kind of driver you are, but I can assure you this model is confortale enough for big tryps a very good performance with the TTE kit, and average with the 116hp standard. The manual gear box is a plus. Automatic is too dool.

It turns and acelerates like a car, and better than all other MPV on side wind resistance...

It acomodates easely 7 adults, and it has some technologic extras you won't find in any other model, but it also has very bad levels of equipment in europe - find out more in toyota.jp/ipsum

If you are in UK, Spain, Portugal, and some other european countrys you won't be able to buy it new anymore. Only, France, Italy, Germany, etc - find more on the european site. Not because its bad, but its not comercially proftable... Toyota passangers cars made in Japan will soon leave market...

I myself have made lots of modifications to mine, and even bought parts from Japan directly...

Regards,

Nuno

Had mine 3 years now 51 plate d4d GLS and after a bad experience with a cough Renault cough Espace am more than pleased with the Verso. Not many about but there are a few if you look. Not as good a the espace to drive (but then you can't drive a car that spends more time on a ramp in the service centre) but more than makes up for it in practical terms a neat trick is it has a large 'trunk' under the rear bootspace where the spare wheel would normally be (this is instead located under the nearside sill) mines now done 105K with no major problems. size wise - Play ice hockey and have had 5 players and their stinking kit in. Took mum dad and 2 friends to Southampton with their luggage (including wheel chair)! bit heavy on tyres but then all MPV's are! in wieghs 1600KG
