Misfueling

About a week ago I had one of those long hard days and right at the end of it I went to fill the car (99 Avensis 1.8GS) up with petrol, or so I thought! At first I couldn't work out why the nozzle wouldn't fit. I had tried to squirt some fuel in but it came gushing out. Then the penny dropped and I realised that I was trying to put diesel in my petrol tank. There was about half a cup full of diesel resting in the fuel tank entrance. When I stuck in the petrol nozzle this must have been released into my tank.

I thought nothing of it until I recently read the following;

http://www.aamotoringtrust.com/files/repor...misfuelling.pdf

It states that "with the increasingly stringent exhaust emission regulations, the fuels and catalyst systems on cars, both petrol and diesel, are damaged by only small amounts of the incorrect fuel."

So can anyone give me advice. Am I likely to need a new cat at the next MOT?

Highly unlikely, as diesel car owners often put a little petrol in the tank in the winter to stop the fuel lines from waxing up.

diesel is heavier than petrol so as long as you topped up with fuel after it should be ok because the concentration of petrol will be higher, thus retaining ignition quality of petrol.

Honest you shouldnt worry.
