Although we've seen and test driven a Previa, we haven't actually seen a tonneau cover fitted. We will mostly be using the car in a five seat configuration with the two back seats removed for luggage space. I will often need to park the car with bags, etc in the boot and therefore a good tonneau cover is essential. I don't want my lovely new Previa broken into just for a nappy changing bag.

Could someone please tell me how robust and easy to use the tonneau cover it. Does it give good cover or are there large gaps at the sides and behind the seats?

We looked at many MPVs and were astonished to find that some didn't have a tonneau cover at all. I worry about my car being broken into as it is without having to park it with bags on full view in the boot.

Thanks

HI TeresaTT

I have had a Previa a 8 weeks now (Not impressed)and it came with a tonneau cover fitted it is a very flimsy thing like plastic covered card board but it dose hide the boot space but you could not put anything on it like a hnad bag it would just break

Thanks Toyotric. I wasn't expecting a cover that I could put things on. It sounds a similar cover to the one in our current Mazda estate.

Why aren't you very impressed with your Previa? I'd like to know before I order one.

Thanks

That's not what it's for, that would be like trying to put a Roof Rack on a convertible!

If you're not using it I saw one go on eBay for about £50. It would probably be fairly easy to make something more substantial if you need to as long as the mountings are up to it.

Hi Teresa

Sorry it's took so long to get back to you,Are you shaw you want to know, well here we go then

I had the car 14/10/05 from the 1st time I drove it ,it had clutch judder They said I must do 1Kmiles befor they would look at it.There is a peace of loose chrome on the back door where you open it. They said they are all like this we canot do anything about it. The rear brakes did not properly untill I had my 1st emergancey stop(this was at 25 mph on a damp streight road and the abs didnot work and ended up broad side in the road No damage) the brakes and abs work fine now I think it just needed a good stamp on them to free everything had it checked out ok.

Asked for the outside temp to activeated in the cd diplay as shown in the book they said it's not on this model. Before I placed the order I asked If it had folding mirrors (could no find it in the sales blerb anywhere) the sales man said yes when I asked how they wored they said not on this model.

It came with UK spec alram system book and states that it has car jack system and to ask you dealer to activate it(It locks the doors when the car is moving) they did not know how to do it after a time they got a procedure to do it and it did not work, now the alram goes of and unlocks itself

The end of the roof bar kept coming up about 10mm so they fitted a new one it has been over tightend and the roof is now dished.

Pull up at junctions and the idle speed should be at 800rpm but it is some times 1000 rpm and higher when hot .

admitted some of this is the dealers fault but it should not have come out of the factory like this(Or should it)

It is a T3 D4D and it's very noisey sounds like a VW air cooled when you wind it up.If the road is even damp it wheel spins just pulling of at about 10mph (just let 2 bar out of each front tyre today seems to be better but how will it efect tyre ware)

I had a espace before this it was quieter more power more space better dash and cd but I could not aford to keep it. It cost 15k to keep on the road Mostly warranty work.

At least when I turn the key in the Previa I know I will get home

The Previa goes in on thursday to have the alarm system done and the roof looked at.Now they have told me to do 2k before they will look at the clutch judder.

Sorry to go on but I am one who thinks you should get value for money after all they are not cheap 24k is a lot of dosh

Wow, sounds like a lemon and a duff dealer! Was it new?

Clutch judder, our has none- it's a nice easy clutch as well- but I'm surprised at your dealers response since it's usually caused by oil leaking onto the clutch plate. I guess there hoping it'll just burn off- it will after a while but that's no good if the leak is still there!. Brakes, I thought the pedle felt a bit squishy when I got ito it bus for the first time but it didn't show at all when driving- pulls up very nicely and the ABS works well too. Chrome trim, dosn't have any (thankfully!) Ours is UK spec and shows outside temp when asked. Mirrors, perhaps a misunderstanding, ours fold if you push them ;) Not sure about the anti car-jacking thingy but there's a button by the window switches which locks all the doors. Can't comment on the bars, havn't got any, or noise, ours is nice and quiet but it's petrol (Having said that, I've never noticed exessive, or any, noise from my brothers Disiesel Previa, same year as mine (02)

Sounds like your dealer needs a good slap! If they tell you it's got it it should have it! Not all Previas are like that and, thanfully, neither are the dealers- the only complaint about ours was the tyre pressures were way too low, a bit naughty really.

Well I can't complain about mine either, although it is a 3 year old Japanese import (Estima), it's only done just over 10k miles so is near to new condition. But virtually everything is the same as the UK versions, so i think I'm ok to add a few comments here! Brakes are good, clutch is faultless, and had no probs with trim being loose at all. The only slight annoyance I find is the rear view is a bit limited, I think its a combination of the large headrests and fairly small rear window that do it. Possibly a bit thirsty (it's a petrol model) although I've not had much chance to gauge it properly. But then it is about the biggest MPV out there, and what it lacks in economy I find is more than made up for in space and quality.

And my local Toyota dealers are absolute stars when it comes to being helpful too!!! Sorry to hear you've had so many problems, Toyotric, but it does sound as if your dealers are unusually iffy!

Hi Glanma,

Just got it back from the dealer yesterday they have done the car jack system(turn the key on it locks the doors and off opens them) they are talking to the warranty manager about the clutch and the didnt they put in the roof when they replaced roof bar end cap also going to find out about the auto off on the heated rear screen ( it does not go off after 15 mins)
