hi all just got carina e it has a bit next to gear lever with toyota security on it and a red light and some form of button on it but seems to be inactive can anyone shed some light on this for me thanks

can't remember there being a button on it, but i think what you are talking about is the TVSS alarm that was fitted to the jap carinas when they got to the UK. Do you have an alarm fob with a white button? If not you should have and you can order one at a Toyota Parts place with your chassis number i think..

This 'button' is the movement detector. The red light will flash when the alarm is activated.

Setting the alarm is by using the fob as described above (if you have one) - a replacement will cost about £65.

The alarm is also set by locking the drivers door with the key. If you need to lock the car without setting the alarm lock the door using the central locking switch on the drivers door. Then close the door holding the handle in the raised position.
