Avensis 1.8vvti

Hi everyone

I have an Avensis 2001 model with the 1.8VVTi engine with 30,000 miles on the clock. At the moment no problems with oil. However all the scary posts on this subject are beginning to worry me. Should I stick with this car or get rid of it now before problems arise? I like the sound of the D4D diesel. Any views would be welcome.

Cheers

1.8's are the worst for burning oil. The D4D's have a known fly-wheel failure issue but it's far less widespread than the oil burning in the 1.8's. Personally i'd get a 2.0 Petrol because as yet there's been no problems reported.

It's funny, as I've never had to put a drop of oil in my car (in between service intervals) and shes done over a hundread thousand miles - 1.8 petrol 99/V

Is it just the vvti's with the problem?

Yes mate, just the VVTi models. The 7A-FE models are pretty much bullet proof, same as the 3S-FE 2 litre models.

It Certainly is, the old engines ran forever, were smoother and required much less revving.
