hi there a newbie here

i bought a gen5 1990 celica 2.0 16vGT a few weeks ago after parting with my old omega 3 ltr V6 this is the first toyota have owned after running fords and vauxhalls

i have a few problems with the car if anyone could give me any advice please

i have this knocking noise from the back end of the car seems to be on every bump and there is quite a few on the island lol

and i have another knocking noise when i start engine from cold but if i increase revs it goes but when returns to idle it returns first thought was thrust bearings but it doesnt disapear when it's pressed

anyway thankyou for your time

back end knocking will be the rear anti roll bar bushes. £20 will buy you new ones, and 20mins DIY will fit them.

Not sure on the engine noise

hi and welcome

rear end, could be a strut or anti roll.

engine knocking - could be litle end, piston slap (never heard of it though on a 182) loose component such as manifold heat shield, could be exhaust rattling at certain resonance.

try this trick - open hood, get long handled screw driver, stick the metal end on parts around the engine bay and stick yer ear to the handle - instant stethascope... may help to source the rattle/knocking.

does it sound internal?

anyhow, best of luck.

am still getting used to the lowness and how small it is after last cars have been mondeo ST24 then omega 2.5cdx and the one before celica the elite 3.0 but since my move to the island fuel costs of the V6 is horendous.

thanks daktari it can get a lonley place on the island lol.

the old celica is not quite a gt4 but i like it it's got full toyota history and even has original radio etc its got private reg and whats funny is i bought it from the mainland and it starts OIW ( one for the island lol )

funley enough was parkrd next to a nice red GT4 in somerfields in ryde yesterday looked good when i came out 2 red cars side by side but what spoilt it was mine is in desperate need of a good clean.

anyway cheers again

No probs. If you get flashed by a grubby BMW 5 series or a Green Disco that`ll be me. The GT4 is off the road for the winter months.
