i am currently without car as i was going to change my timing belt and eventually had to sheer the bolt holding the pully on as it was so tight an the pully would just not stay still without jaming something in it. does anybody know of a mechanism to stop this from moving like on some other cars?

:-o

The 4E/5E has a spring loaded timing belt tensioner. If you've sheared off the tensioner bolt you'll have to replace it with a new one. You don't take any chances with this - one error and its goodnight engine.

timing belt isnt something you should change unless you really know what ur doing, if you get the timing out it'l run like a pig, some1 will probably ending charging you more to set the timing up correctly if they know youve already had a go. take it in somewhere get bolt removed and replaced and ask them to put the belt on for you.

get yourself an easy out and then get the bolt out.

just to clarify which bit did you sheer was it the tensioner or the camshaft pulley
