St182 - Dipped Beam Problem

Hello everyone. Glad to be aboard.

Not the first post I wanted to do but beggars can't be choosers I'm affraid.

Well I've a 1990 Toyota Celica ST182, UK version.

Black with mods. so far K&N induction kit, Gen 7 Style Wheels and Stereo!

Problem I've just had seems to stem from a couple of weeks back when the drivers side headlight would not come on. N.B. Main(Full) beam worked just fine, but no light when dipped.

I changed the bulb thinking the element had gone, but this did exactly the same until I opened the door of the car to get out and investigate and as if by magic it came on!

It was then ok for a few weeks until last night and now both have gone off, i.e. passanger and drivers side. Again though the Main Beam works OK, its just I don't get any lights at all on dip.

I've checked around a bit, the fuses seem ok! On Celica-Club.co.uk someone had a similar problem, but I can't seem to register on there to ask!

A suggestion on there was the "dipped beam resistor" does anyone know where I could find this and what it looks like? Or if anyone has any other suggestions I'd be grateful!

Many Thanks in advance.

Evan

sounds bit like a loose wire to me.

Not really sure!

Is there a wire/ resistor that comes between the switch and lights that could put both of them out?

As I mentioned Full beam is OK and so are the sidelights, so I reckon stalk is out of the question, as are fuses and relays! So, sny ideas?

Not sure what a resistor would be all about? This is part of the electrical diagram for the h/l:

There is part of it missing to keep the file size down, but it is mainly the control relay for the pop up motors.

As mentioned it could be a loose connection on the dipped beam circuit. I think that it is still possible for the stalk switch to be faulty, does main beam work when you push the stalk back, and when you pull it forwards for momentary flash?

Hi Mike,

Yes the main beam does work when I push the stalk back and when I pull it forward for the flasher!

I think I'll have to bite the bullet on this one and drop it off at a garage for them to check it out. Thought it would be something simple, but I guess not haha!

Thanks fr the wiring diagram though! Much Appreciated.
