A turbo engine (gt4 or mr2) is more or less a bolt in replacement for your car. But don't even think about running one through an autobox. :o

Get one from an MR2, you'll have a better g'box to then keep FWD .. should be a direct swap

If you want 4WD, sell it and get a GT4. The GT4 swap would be horrendous due to an extra driveshaft and all the chassis mods needed.

i'm not looking for 4wd just a turbo charged engine. i miss the turbo and wanted one for my celica. i'm aware of the cost of an engine swap and have already got the labour sorted i just need the best advice as to which engine, gearbox(auto) and if theres anything else i should know.

cheers for the replies so far.

the Autobox would be "a nightmare" .. and I'm not sure if an NA auto box would take the power of a Turbo'ed lump.

If you want a turbo then sell the car and buy a turbo'd celica. Very simple :)

The amount of parts and work involved in changing the engine and gearbox and fitting a clutch pedal and getting it all work is just not worth it.

For £3500 you can buy a ST205 Celica GT4 Turbo

Seems it needs to be an auto ..

I could only suggest a low pressure turbo kit, blow 6/7psi through your GE block .. you'd then have about 200bhp .. any more and you'd need a GTE block.

And the kit would probably be the wrong side of £1500.

i've been gettin suggestions elsewhere to just go for an engine and box from an mr2 turbo auto. seems to make the most sense.

There's no such thing as an 'MR2 turbo automatic'. They come in manual box only.

yup, all turbo's are manual .. I think cause the auto box won't take it.

but I have heard that auto boxes are stronger than NA ones .. judt a guess if it's stronger than a turbo box.

you will need a rev 2 or 3 3sgte, you will need a mr2 gearbox, it will be a manual set up.

my opinion.

option one - forget it and buy a celica which has been designed by toyota to already have a turbo and get awd thrown in for free.

option 2 - get 50hp direct port progressively controlled nitrous installed with front brake upgrades.

in reality, if you fit a 3sgte to the car it will never perform how you may expect or suspect it will. a 3sgte swap will cost at least £1500 done properly and may cost more.

imho nitrous is the way to go - or buy a GT4.

cheers

Helpful topic for me. Is that £1500 without labour fee? I had been told that £2200 is something that it will cost overall by Fensport. I need more others information. Thanks.

I pulled £1500 out the air .. I know it's about that for labour .. then pluss engine etc etc .. all depends on what you want and where you buy stuff.

Give people a call ..

i can see where your all coming from. i have also heard AT boxes are stronger. NOS sounds ok but its more expensive in the long run and...well i never really been interested in nos. theres always a first time for everything eh? lol..

AT boxes ARE stronger than a normal NA box, but I have no idea if it's stronger than a TURBO box.

that ones a turbo conversion.

it is possible to just put in the 3S-GTE engine into your auto celica, i have a mate who had a gen5 soft top which had had it done. the only trouble is that the auto box has an ECU of it's own then you need the wiring and ECU for hte engine
