Uk Vs Jap Speedo

Just wondering...

If i fitted a UK speedo to my import would it instantly read in MPH or would it still need a chip to convert the signal?

I assume that both the UK car and the import use the same signal but the uk spec speedo is designed to read the signal as mph and the import reads it in kmph...

really tough one mate, only way to tell i guess would be to use a GPS to see if the speeds matched. or get a mate to drive along next to you and see if they match.

they will use the same signal from the speed sensor but the signal runs thru the ECU, it could change there

Thanks man

I got it on good authority that the signals are the same and its just the speedos that display the signal in different ways.

So im going to just buy one and see how it goes

It'd read in MPH, but would still be limited .. it's what I did on the MR2.

Then get a RSM to de-limit :)

Yep, that exactly what i've been told. My mate at Toyota told me that its the speedos that are the only difference and that the jap ECU will limit the revs in 4th & 5th gear which equates to 112mph - regardless of what the speedo is showing.

I'll be getting a Unichip soon so that will take care of the limit
