Hi All,

Just about to purchase my first Toyota - a 2 year old 1.8 latest version of the Avensis. I just wondering if the oil cosumption problem mention in the forum could affect this car?

cheers

Rik

Toyota calim the problem was on 1.4 1.6 1.8 vvt-i from 2000-2002, so no it should not. I'm hoping it dont cos i've just collected my avensis last week with 10k on the clock.

i agree with steve 84 known problem due to sulphur levels in petrol modified block needed main problem is high oil consumption no modern engine should use the amount some people report

I had one of these 2001 engines which drank oil. When it got bad the dealer put a new short engine in for me completely FOC on Toyota's own warranty. The new engine doesn't use a drop of oil.

I've one of these, but not bought from a Toyota Dealer. Drinks oil - is there anything I can do or will I have to pay?

Mine is a 2001 model, takes 1 litre of oil per 1000-1500 miles. Great apart from that.

Only a litre per 1000-1500 miles my corolla was doing 5 litres of oil to that amount of miles that only had 49000 miles on the clock. On a serious note there was a unofficle extended warrenty upto 5 years toyota dealers wont admit this tho well not all of them. Toyota tho want the car to have a full service history and if anything has been replaced they say it must be a toyota part that has been put in, in place of old part. Then there is the 3 x 1000 mile oil level checks at the dealer if the car then falls below toyotas limits which i think are 600 miles per litre they will change engine free of charge. It was a fault on all zz engines these are 1.4-1.6-1.8 from 2000-2002. What i did was printed off all problems with oil useage off the avensis forum and corolla one and gave them to the service manager at my local dealer has he kept saying he'd never known toyota's burn oil, and that mine was an isolated case.
