GT-FOUR

Howdy guys :)

Names Matt, am from Mansfield in Nottinghamshire, and tonight I got my first Toyota Celica GT-Four.

It's a 1990 model.

My first question has to be on performance.

Driving it home, I would have to say I was pretty dissapointed to say the least I had a Nissan 200SX before and a Calibra Turbo, both felt much faster than the Celica, so I am not sure even if its running right ?

My mate is getting an M plate Subaru Impreza WRX for £2999 in 2 weeks and hes boasting that hes gonna be all over me etc etc, and at this rate I think he will lol.

Anyway just wanted to say Hi, and if anyones got any tips on performance, what I can do and what its capable of I would be very grateful.

Many thanks.

Matt :)

welcome to the club mate :group-cuddles:

If your GT4 is factory standard you will be beaten by the WRX. I think im right in saying that standard GT4s arent amazingly quick but it doesnt take many mods for them to be.

I have a gen 6 GT4 so im sure some gen5 owners will come along to help you soon

Welcome Matt. Nice looking car. Ticks all the right boxes. Gen 5. (Tick) Silver Grey (Tick) Doesn`t appear to have been tampered with too much. (Tick)

Looks like a UK model. If it is it`ll be pushing out 200BHP at best. So unfortunately it`ll be Scooby fodder. Several things you can do to combat this though. First i would suggest you use the search feature at the top of the page and look at things like Boost controllers and exhaust.etc. Have a good look around the forum and get some ideas. Also get over to www.gt4oc.net and see what the guys over there are doing to their 185`s.

There are loads of things you can do to improve the performance so it`s worth taking your time. Any specific questions please feel free to ask anyone on here. Everyones really friendly and we`ll :help: if we can. :group-cuddles:

Once again welcome to TOC and enjoy your stay.:thumbsup:

welcome to the fold mate,

first things first, make sure it is running right before you go on taking up your mates challenge, once it has the all clear buy yourself a boost gague and boost controller wind it up to 0.9bar (about 13psi in old money) then just make sure it's from a rolling start when you meet up with your mate ;)

scoobies are really short geared so they get off the line quick but soon run out off puff which is where the GT-Four reels them in :P

if you've got enought spare cash, get yourself a de-cat and full exhaust and that ought to be enough to keep your mate at bay.

word to the wise, don't even think of running over 0.9bar as you will blow the headgasket, and try not to run it on that pressure too muc htill you get a metal head gasket in there. i'm paying the price for that mistake just now and believe me it ain't cheap!!!

Not a lot. I think its about .5 in 1st and 2nd then .7 in 3rd, 4th & 5th. But it`s been so long since i ran standard i really cant be sure. :D

I was running mine at 1.1 (Short periods only mind) without any HG issues. But for all i know it could have a metal HG. Don`t know if there`s any way to tell.
