Help Fitting A Bucket Seat.

Hi all can anybody give me some tips on fitting a fixed back bucket seat to my mk2, its being bolted directly to the floor pan with universal Corbeau side mounts. Just look for anyone who has done it and can give me some pointers.

There are 2 pieces of metal where the original seat was fixed, they have been welded on but need to be removed to give me a flat surface, whats the best way to remove them? Would a hammer and chisel work?

cheers and sorry about the mini essay,

cheers,

Michael.

ah.... so this is why you wanted a hold of me on msn?

Can't really help you there mate!!

My seats used the original base from my old seats so they still slide etc. New bits and bobs were fabricated and added to them. That's about all I know. Took my garage quite a while to get it all done too tho.

My garage would do it for you mate but would be pricey and your old seats wouldn't be useable.

Use an angle grinder on the welds. You risk damaging the floor pan with a hammer and chisel.

PS if the welds are hard to get to use a cutting disc instead of a grinding disc. Make sure you wear goggles and thick gloves too.

Mate, are you still trying to fit the seat??? That was a week ago you started on it!!

Get yourself a cheap grinder (£20) from B&Q and grind the buggers off!!

Or nip down here and I'll cut them off for you

i don't know the crack about using brackets (if your doing that) but if your bolting it directly to the floor, i'd suggest having two metal plates made, bolt the seat to those plates, then bolt the plates to the car. spreading the mass of the weight about means that it wont loosen as much as time goes on. when bolting the plates down, make sure the bolt is inside your car, it means that it won't rust inside, so it can be removed pretty easy too.
