Gen 7 Owners - Servicing

Hi all,

As if Christmas wasn't expensive enough, I'm contemplating my first service since I've had the T-Sport in about 4 weeks :crybaby:

I just cleaned her yesterday and noted a few points that need looking at under the warranty, but apart from that she's pretty clean and ok. She's currently on 17k, but it'll be a year since her last service, so I guess it'll be the 20k service she'll be after. :bookworm:

I'm just in the process of ordering some decent oil (Silkolene Pro-S :drool:) from Oilman to be used at the service (providing Mr T will use it).....

But what I really wanted to know was how much you guys have had to pay for your 20k service and really what it involves? Have you had any nasty surprises? :unsure:

Cheers guys. :thumbsup:

Should be looking at about £250 all in I would have thought...

My 40K was £450, but that included an aircon overhaul, and every fluid but the petrol changed, so although I'm a little disgusted they can charge that much, I'm not surprised!!

On a slight side note, I had someone from my local MrT Dealership call me a while ago asking me if I wanted to pay up front for my servicing (3 Services for about £550), and have it all done at a fixed rate. Is this something anyone else has had, and d'you think its worth going for?

Cheers DefiantFrog - I've actually done what I should've done to start with and phoned Mr T to check for the standard price. Quite reasonable actually....

For the standard 20k service it's £217 and if you supply your own oil, it's £173! So I'm going to whack in the stuff Oilman sends me. :thumbsup:

Hopefully everything else will be covered under warranty. At the moment I have the following list:- (!!!!!) :eek:

- rusty rear hubs;

- T-Sport alloy centre caps tarnished and rotten;

- squealing belts;

- badly scored brake discs;

- return of rasp noise when engine under load at 1200rpm; and,

- squeak/rattle from behind drivers seat.

Then hopefully she'll be as good as new! :)

Will they do brake disks under warranty?? I thought they came under the consumables part like tyres?

Make sure they do put your oil in your car and not hive that off for themselves! I think it's the same stuff as I had from Oilman and it's dark red so you should be able to check that they have put it in!

Sotal - have you noticed a difference with the red oil?! I'll be ordering the Silklene Pro-S, is that the same as you had? I'll defo check what colour is in there after the servie!!

I'm not sure about the disc brakes - but considering it's been an ongoing problem with them being scored and not wearing evenly, I'd hope they at least make some kind of goodwill contribution towards whatever needs doing.

Is this a normal problem for the Gen7? Mine keep warping and scoring and I don't even batter them!!

prob comes if the car were to be in accident and get written off before you'd had all the services!

Rightyho - thought I'd re-adopt this thread rather than start a new one! :D

Just took my TS in for its 20k service this morning (now on 17,193 - but a year since the last service). Initially very pleased with customer service - they didn't have a courtesy car so I got a Rav 4 D4D, XT-R which has proved to be quite good fun! :P

I put the car in for the 20k service plus the following:-

- rusty rear hubs;

- T-Sport alloy centre caps tarnished and rotten;

- squealing belts;

- return of rasp noise when engine under load at 1200rpm; and,

Just had a call from the dealership saying everything is being sorted except the rusty hubs, which they say aren't counted within warranty after first six months (is this not a complete load of :censor: ?) I'm pretty sure a couple of other Gen 7 owners have said they've had this sorted out under warranty??? Anyway, they say they've contacted Toyota UK who've said it's not covered. They're charging £55+VAT to have it done. I said I'd pay it, but will claim it back from Toyota UK, they've got a case number set up, so I'll get on to them this afternoon. :ffs:

And the raspy noise is "evidently" the air pump(?) noise which is completely normal?!?!?!?!?!?! Well, considering I didn't have any raspy noise until it went into Toyota a few months ago and then took it back to be solved - it's since come back.........surely it's not a 'normal' noise? Anyone else had this problem?

DAMN - Mr T has got me wound up again!!! :censor:

Pick up the car at 5pm today - will update then.

Well.........

Picked up the car, the whole thing cost £213 which wasn't bad (20k service and painting of hubs). I supplied my own Oil, courtesy of Oilman and I have to say, the car is running SOOOO smoothly now. The rest of the car feels really taut and 'new' too, so happy with that. Recommend Silkolene Pro-S to anyone!

The dealer painted the hubs for me (which looks good), but I'm still going to pursue Toyota GB about it as I don't think a 15 month old car should have rust invading parts.

But they fixed the raspy noise, whatever it was and they're ordering in the T-Sport centre caps and new alt. belt to stop the squeal. That's being fitted in a couple of weeks time.

Thanks to TOC for getting the Gold Member discount! :thumbsup:

Oh, and the Rav 4 D4D is surprising good...............really enjoyed my afternoon with it! :D

Well they just rang. I need new brake fluid £30, new coolant £50 and new front disks and pads £220.

Coolant and pads are still good for 3000 miles or so and i still need new alloys and tyres so i am passing on that for a few months.

Should get it back soon so i hope it at least drives a bit better.

mue it's 60k service, i was quoted £294 from mr T, which i thought was far to high but having saw some the prices on this thread it doesn't seem to bad.

as for the upfront service costs, my mate works for Arnorld Clark and they offer it, the reason why they can offer such a good deal is that it ties you in to getting your services done by them, whereas normally you may shop around and they won't get the business. You might not believe it but servicing is where dealerships make the most profit, it would surprise you to find out how little they make per car

Oh, I do believe it when you think they make charge £1.50 each car for topping up screenwash when it's not even needed! And when the oil they put in costs £10 more than super-duper stuff you can buy from Oilman!! :ffs:
