Mot Failure

So, my GT failed it's MOT last week.

Unbalanced front brakes no less. I thought I had it all fixed, I took the front right caliper off and one of the rods was siezed solid. So I got it free and greased it all up and with a new set of pads on both sides for good measure put it in for a re-test today. Sadly, it failed again for exactly the same reason, front right ~35% down on force. Now I'm at a bit of a loss. The caliper now moves freely and smoothly.

Does anyone have any experience with this and can tell me where to look next?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Andrew

if you cleaned and greased the 2 slider rods mate, all thats left is the caliper piston , take the caliper off , pump the brake pedal , have someone do it for you , and watch the piston pop out about an inch and a half, no more than that or it will pop out altogether , its most likely got pits on it and possibly rust , give it a good clean up and maybe file the pits out a bit until they feel smooth - failing that get a recon caliper exchange from www.brakesinternational.co.uk £60

if your are capable you can buy a caliper service kit with a new piston and change the lot yourself..The caliper you will get is pretty damn good from BI , i have used them more than once.

If i was you i would strip down the caliper completely - as in remove the piston.

Get a brake service kit from Toyota the scrub down and rebuld it using new seals etc

Thanks for the advise!

A problem with the piston did cross my mind but I just couldn't see what it could be that would cause this. I kinda thought that if it's working then it's working and there was little there that could go wrong. That, and I really didn't want to go messing with things I wasn't sure of.

So with renewed confidence I shall attack the piston tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Andrew

they only take it up to 100 on the mot testing scale , which is barely a touch of the pedal - £25 at toyota for a kit enough to do both sides , it contains only rubber seals metal spring clips and grease though , a piston from toyota is as much as a recon caliper from BI , IIRC
