Tailgate Electric Window

i have a 1992 toyota 4 runner the tailgate window won't go down. if i hook a Battery direct to the motor it will go down. then i can make it go up with the key or the switch on the console, but i can't get it to go down with either the key or console switch thanks for any help ron

Sounds like a relay has gone on the board, they have one for up and another for the down action, you will need to remove the side panel to the left of the tailgate to get to the relays, the other thing is that it could be a broken wire where it passes into the tailgate.
