I have been Googling.

It seems red and white in combination are to be used on Japanese F1 cars.

The Evo WRC article I read stated only that Evo was using all red, the

Japanese F1 color (or so this article stated).

Subaru, however, races with the distinctive Nordic blue with gold at WRC.

And I have read that red cars to require more care and attention to

preserve the vibrancy of this colour, else they do exactly what you

say they do - fade.

I have bought my first red car - the Yaris, after finding I was unable to

acquire the silver one first-mentioned in the negotiations.

I should take delivery today; perhaps tomorrow.

The salesman informs me that this idea that the police like to apprehend

red cars over all others is an urban myth.

We shall see. ;)

I've not been pulled yet  but I suppose they do stand out a bit more than duller colours.

And yes the plastic bits do fade! I've got pinkish door handles, but the rest is amazingly shiny red!

tecnically, scoobys are Korean

from whta i can remeber form old school days germany had white and japland wernt int the equation when colours were handed out, they wernt competative in motorsport till they stole a triumph race bike and cpopied the exhaust system

Japanese race cars are traditionally WHITE!

French Blue, British green, German (silver I think?)

I think you will find that this has all been totally thrown out of the window with the introduction of commercial sponsorship!

I have had 5 red toyotas... They only fade if you neglect to look after the paintwork!

Red & White. Read the thread. Do the Googleimages search.

Apparently, in the UK anyway, red cars are less likely to be stolen. I think that comes from insurance statistics.

I imagine thieves think it would be too easy to spot a hot red vehicle!

Presumably racing red and white comes from the Jap flag?

Paul.

I think its actually yellow cars that are less likely to be stolen - cant exactly be inconspicuous in one of those!

Anyway i have a red jap car and the paintwork is top notch - like charlie said they will only fade if you dont look after them ;)

You can even see the rising sun on the nose (well in front of the cockpit). It also happens to be the last Honda car to ever win a Grand Prix ;)

what happened is during a bike race the triumph just rode off the track and never came back the rider was given a big pay off by a jap manufactuer, this is as the !Removed! couldnt figure out how the brits were getting so much power out of our 2 stroke engine, so they stole one, hence the end of our bike industry

We have 3 red jap cars and like them a lot.

The only thing that's fading is the Rolla's bonnet. It's N reg and when it was about 4 years old the bonnet was damaged (by someone throwing a brick at it we think). All fixed under insurance and whole bonnet was re-sprayed and looked as good as new. But 6 years later it's clear that the finish isn't as good as the original paintwork; the bonnet needs regular polishing or else it starts to look pink, wheras the rest of the car is as red as the day we picked it up from MR T. The MR2 is showing no signs of fading at all.

Both the Rolla and the MR2 (which are a similar age) have always been garaged which I think helps reduce paint fading as they're in the sun less. However, I think if the paint's well looked after, ie regularly cleaned and polished, then fading shouldn't be a problem anyway.
