Bye Bye Toyota Hello Honda

Maybe using a higher viscocity oil might solve the problem in the early stages, I'm not entirely sure but dont Toyota put 5W/30 in their VVTI engines.

I dont understand why you would need that in the UK, its hardly the Arctic Circle is it.

I've always used a quality 15W/40 oil as an all year round lubricant and have never had any oil burning issues at all in any vehicles over the years.

changing the viscosity will not resolve the oil burning issue this is a known fault by toyota that's why they have been forced to increase the the warranty on the engines although judging by he posts i have seen toyotas so called extended 5 year warranty is a load of rubbish unless you pursue toyota sometimes even to the small claims court

Noisy Engine, Oil Problems, Gear Box Problems, these are just but a few of the problems am experiencing with my Toyota Avensis Gs Estate 1.8 VVTi. I have been a toyota fun all my life. I have three toyotas, a C - Reg Camry, M - Reg Carina both perfect, and currently the troubled Avensis 1.8 VVTi. My Avensis is consuming Oil at the rate of 600 miles per litre. I dare not do a 100 mile motorway driving without checking the Oil. On local driving the car consumes 1Ltr to 1000 miles. Am a Taxi driver and trust me We Taxi driver look after our cars as their are our bread and butter. I change the Oil every 5000 miles, use original Toyota Oil Filters and Use Castrol GTX Magnetec 10w/40 as recommended by the manufacturer. How can Toyota Sell us such junk. I feel so violated. I trusted them for years and when i finally afforded a new car, they short changed me. I am going after them with all I got. The car is out of warranty, but this is a problem they new about when they sold me the car. They didn't give a warning, and do a recall. It is therefore their responsibilty to fix. And even after they fix it, am going to go Diesel and German big-time.

The gear box is tight when cold. Can't even get out of 1st gear without using both hands to yank it out. when hot, the engine makes a funny rattle when acceralating. Not the tarpets, just not burning petrol prperly due to the oil issue. God help us, if Toyota has turned us, who shall we trust?????????????????????????????????

I am a taxi driver working in manchester i bought an 02 avensis vvti it lasted 7000 miles before the head went had it repared and sold it on i just thought i was unlucky bought another avensis 02 again fsh ect... lasted 1200 miles engine needs replacing now i know what your thinking he is a taxi driver they abuse their cars they don't look after their cars well no not true taxi cars are proabbly the most well looked after cars on the road (mechanically) when the cars off we don't earn incentive enough to service regularly and maintain to a high standard now my previous car was a honda v tech engine lasted 6 years general wear and tear steering rack replaced at 137000 miles mechanically sound lets decide stay with toyota or go back to honda?????oh and by the way warranty direct don't even put toyota in the top ten in their reliability index just read the owner reviews at warranty direct and before you say why did i switch to toyota in the first place the honda accord had a limited boot space something i think i can learn to live with so if your thinking of buying an avensis don't engine failures at 40000 miles flywheel failures at 100,000 whats that saying hate something change something glad i got that off my chest(sorry about the punctuation)

 Yoou are very right to make that move. I wish I could afford it, but I can't coz my car is on HP. I have the oil consumption problem, a tight gearbox and a noisy rattle as the cat burns off the oil. I am planning to wage a war on toyota untill they do something about my car. Like you am a Taxi Driver in London, I service my car relgular, and change the Oil every 3000 to 5000 miles using original Toyota products at a VAT registered mechanic. When I do Motorway driving I get 600 to 1 litre of oil. This is not acceptable, we should all write a common letter to Toyota and see how they respond.

Nobody's violated you. Get a grip...Its a car, and you just happen to be having problems. I've had cars that have been loads of hassle in the past, not anything Japanese however.

Its just bad luck, you could px it tomorrow for a Passat and that could start blowing coils, throwing a rod through the engine, using oil etc. Dont take it personally just get rid of the !Removed! thing if its that bad, thats what I did with cars that played up. Cut your losses and move on....

......and another thing dont try to kid me that private hire drivers look after their cars. Blatant rubbish if some of the ones I go in are anything to go by.

for a cab driver it's not just a car it's our livelihood and it's not bad luck if toyota acknowledge the problem with a 5 year extended warranty ask for the technical information and then say no as for not looking after our cars i can't personally comment on all cab drivers but only an idiot would not look after the mechanics of his car to a very high standard or may be the cab office only send you bad cars

if buying new you will love the new honda civic it's stunning if not then make sure you get full dealer service history to quote parkers the honda civic will not break down if mainted properly and the honda civic is the second most reliable car on independent warranty surveys (accord number 1) happy motoring

the old shape avensis not the vvti engine same engine as in the toyota carina look out for cars that have been taxis steerig racks a very common problem and the civic is in the top 10 of most reliable cars ever parkers survey prelude no 1 the carina is no 6 the civic is a good solid reliable car v tec engines have been going for 15 years so they must be doing someting right but you can have problems if the car has not been serviced properly the one thing i have learned when buying a car is to be patient i once bought a j reg honda concerto ( a bit of a tank i know ) with 14000 miles on the clock for £ 900 genuine mileage an old retired man who bought it from new who only used it to do the weekly shopping the car looked as if it had just come out of the showroom i hunted for 2 months to find the right car

I drove the car as a cab for 4 years no problems at all me personlly i would'nt buy a car without full dealer/vat registerd garage service history personally i would never buy a toyota again

their's an average of 16.81% of a toyotas having an engine fault within 50,00 miles as compared with honda which has an average of 2.60% source reliabiltyindex good luck

I think it's about time this conversation was closed! I fear it's moving off track a little.

I don't like to see people upset with their cars, especially if Toyotas. I wish you all the best of luck with getting the problem sorted, but this is not a true reflection of Toyota cars in general.

Let's get back to constructive chat, with info that people can learn from!

agreed i don't like to see people upset with their cars but if toyota didn't make engines that drink oil insted of petrol this post would never have been started as for constructive chat he just asked me for a recommendation i replied based upon independent surveys isn't that being constructive

Eh up! I wasn't criticising anything you or anybody else was saying! I was merely saying that this has got a little silly now, and people are beginning to be bitchy.
