Stone Chip?

I was out washing the car at the weekend and noticed a couple of scratches (two month old today! Ba***rds!! :ffs: ) on the door body and what looks like either a chip or silver paint transfer to the matt black door surround (Avensis 05). The scratch looks like it has only penetrated the enamel as the paint is still sound beneath it and the mark on the black surround has no "depth" to it which leads me to think that it is transfer, but it won't come off.

Question is, what is the best stuff for enamel scratches? I've used a block of "clear" wax to fill the scratches for now. I'm a bit paranoid as I've seen what happens if water gets beneath the enamel and spreads! :o

Cheers,

Jim

If it's the laquer you are on about (the clear coat) then get a laquer touch up pen from an automotive store. Then very carefully fill the scratch with the clear laquer.

Then, to bring it in line with the rest of the paint work you will need a very fine sand paper, I mean VERY fine. This will obviously scratch the surface. It's a bit like sanding your walls at home, you need to bring it all to the same level to look right.

Then finally, you need to polish it with an abrasive. Believe it or not, Brasso metal polish makes good work of this due to it's slightly abrasive nature. Rub it in with a soft cloth in a circular motion, then rub off the excess with a dry lint free cloth. This part may need repeating until it is scratch free.

This is a cheap option, it just requires a bit of elbow grease.
