hi can you help is it a hard job changing the cv joints on a 97 starlet? only i live in darwin and have been quoted around 600 to change is this right??

Hi and welcome to the club first of all...

I aint a mechanic but that sounds well over the top for a cv joint.

Im sure someone with some more info will be able to help you with more info soon enough though. :)

Rip off mate -

i'm looking at having the engine taken out of the Nissan for work & i'm getting prices ranging from £500-£750 & thats decidedly more difficult than CV joints

edit - just a silly numpty question - but which Darwin? if its Australia & your talking in AUD it works out to £250ish GBP which isnt so bad

yeah, if its just outer cv joints then £250 seems ok for parts and labour.

even two recon driveshafts with all 4 joints replaced should still cost less than £600 to remove and refit.

its not a hard job, just a little messy when it comes to the grease.

I was told the same thing with my corolla, Apparently according to my haynes manual if it is an outer cv joint that has gone, the whole drive shaft must be replaced, But i can officially say now that it doesnt, Sledge hammer and Angle Grinder and 3 hours of cursing and shouting and it's all done lol

i only needed a soft mallet. took a bit of bashing but once it started it more or less slipped off.
