Power Steering Problem

anybody know why powered steering would be noisy when the car is cold.....

(stationary + turning wheel = noisy groan)

then fine when the car is warm. *wierd* :unsure:

help much appreciated to put my mind at rest :rolleyes:

Could be running low on power steering fluid, once it heats up the level will rise - hence the noise disappears.

Check the level and top up if need be, dextron 2 or 3 will do and you can buy it from halfrauds :thumbsup:

As Lee said it could just be low fluid....

if the fluiod level looks good, check how clean it is... old dirty manky fluid can sometimes change viscosity beyond the tolerances with extremes of temperature...

If its neither of those I would say the pump is on the way out... Can you "feel" it groaning?

It could also be the belt, check its condition.

Can you "feel" it groaning?

Surely if the belt was out you would notice other symptoms... if I recall correctly the JZ seies engines use one belt for all ancilleries?????

Yep, one belt for all the accessories.

If it was worn and gone shiny then it would slip causing a squeak but as things tend to warm up then it may grip a bit better.
