Have you checked that part of the wheel arch liner hasn't come loose?

yeah iv had both wheels off and it seems like there is a small amount of oil on the shock absorber so it seems it is leaking but would that make a knocking noise tho?

if its weeping its losing oil and there for not working.the oil slows down the rebound so with out it it travels to fast and bottoms out

cheers thats wot it was. i got the shocker replaced under arnold clark warranty and its fine now.
