Thinking Of Buying A Used T3-x Diesel

I'm in the process of changing from a Ford Focus C-Max 2.0TDCI (how many words are there for unreliable and badly-built?) and have seen three likely Avensis diesel T3-X models at local dealers..... I have looked back at previous posts but would appreciate any advice on what to look for/what to avoid etc. Thanks everyone.

Well I got mine from new, and yes 114BHP is a bit mean, but torque is nice and build quality is good, no major problems yet (18K miles in 6 months) I would recommend one.

I agree that the torque on them is good. And while my wife's Astra is 0-60mph in 10.2, the Avensis is allegedly 11.2. The Avensis feels faster and more powerfull (it is, by 15 bhp! :o) ) But, I've only had mine two months so I can't really say much more, other than...

Many thanks for the replies - I'm hoping to have a test drive tomorrow, snow permitting! It is the build quality and the reliability that I am particularly keen on.

Hi to All

I to am looking at buying a newer Avensis(currently have a 1.8GLS), I see from your posts that the BHP is low - I pull a caravan with my Avensis, is a newer one going to be sufficient.

I would like a 2.0 diesel or petrol, what model should I look for?

Regards

Get the diesel, its not power thats important, its how the engine uses that power. i.e. torque. Diesels are better at towing. IMO anyway.

OLDSURFER?

Let us know how you got on with test drive. Did snow get in way??

I certainly will - looking at about 6in/15cm snow here this morning. Be a useful test drive if it happens!

As Mkuk0 stated diesels are better for towing due to good low end torque. But I suppose it depends on how much and how often you tow and are you doing enough annual milage to warrant the extra cost of the diesel. A friend of mine has the 2.0 petrol which tows a caravan and he says its well up to the job.

Well - had a good long test drive in a T3-X 2.0 D4D in the snow - B road, A roads, dual carriageway and town centre - drove really well, got comfortable very quickly (6'2" of me), lots of torque low down with fair acceleration too, quiet too and felt very well put together and handled fine....so the C-Max has gone and I'm buying the Avensis!

Dealership very good too so far - no pressure at all but gave me over book price for the C-Max and discounted the Avensis.

Many thanks for all your help everyone - will keep logging on to the site too.

OLLY49 - hope you find the D4D suitable for towing.

:D

I picked up my 2.0D4D T3X saloon on Saturday 24th December,i have done some 250 miles in it so far and am pleased with it .I wanted something with good reliability and diesel economy, the Avensis feels very well built it is very good on interior space and has a great size boot, i picked this ahead of the new Passat. I looked at the reliability reports in WHAT CAR etc and the Avensis was best in class. My last car was a Merc C200 kompressor avantgarde and it was the most overrated car i have ever owned, i had lots of electric faults the dealers were very unhelpful.

I looked at much on the same background info as you did - glad your're pleased with your new Avensis. Dealership has also done me a very competitive deal on insurance too compared with my current deal!

Have already left my C-Max with the dealership - glad to give it to them - so have just completed a 550 mile round trip to a wedding in Manchester using my wife's V-reg YARIS 1.0 CDX, four adults plus luggage - a bit smaller than I'd prefer and naturally slow to accelerate but not a rattle or squeak, over 50mpg and cruised at 70 comfortably.

Picking the Avensis up on Tuesday - will post on how I find it.

Thanks again to everyone for their advice.
