sounds more like a sticky caliper mate , you will end up with warped discs , take it for a run do some hard braking return home and smell the heat comming from the offender.

does the steering wheel judder also after a while. ??

Hell, get it to a garage ASAP, I had a sticking caliper on my Gen 5 and boy did it stink after a few miles. Also put your hand near the alloy wheel (careful may be HOT!!!) -you can fry an egg on there after a few miles of driving........

if the disc on 1 side is red hot and stinking, then thats most likely %$(ed anyways now .

to clean up the caliper , you need to undo the front section , tilt it over , have someone pump the brake pedal untill the piston sticks out about 1 inch , any more it may pop out altogether . ( not a job now for a newbie )

you can see visible signs of rust and pitting on the piston , or maybe the rubbers have split and letting in water .Clean it up using brake fluid and very light emery paper. try to rub out bad pitting if you can until it feels smooth .

if you refit using the same disc it maybe warped now , and fitting new pads wont last 10 miles - ideally you need a refurbished caliper , a new disc and a full set of pads , so every face is a flat face.

:D yaay - just got the celi back , was a rubber seal in the caliper that had cracked or something and was letting crap in ! so all it was was a sealer kit am sure !!

No bill yet , hope it wont be too bad ! surely not .

Another quick question :) I was asking about my bodywork , theres a few small scratches etc and my uncle suggested compounding it  ?? at least thats what i thought he said - i've never heard of this but apparantly it makes the paint shiny and new again

Anyone had this done ? effective??

 merci.

my brother was quoted £80 to have his st202 done, they use some sort of big polishing disc and loads of t-cut style creams then buff it up to a new shine. .

Rubbing compound is just like t-cut but more abrasive. You can buy a tube of Farecla G3 paste from motor factors etc and do it yourself with a bit of elbow grease. Just be careful not to go right through to the primer!

Glad you got the brakes fixed out. If the scratches are light then I would suggest you just stick with t-cut as you seriously do not want to go mad with the G3 stuff if you have not experience with it.

If you are using a cutting polish then I often find that it is not easy to take off again with a cloth. After t-cutting and then rubbing off try using wax to remove the rest of the marks

autoglym cutting polish is better than tcut in my past experiences
